IEEE EMB Student Club of IIT Kharagpur Commemorates IEEE's 125 Years of Engineering the Future

IEEE's Student Boot Camps and IEEE's Engineering the Future Day, IIT Kharagpur on September 06, 2009

Kharagpur - Sunday, September 6, 2009 -
The IEEE's mission to successfully promote the engineering profession started off through the IEEE's Student Boot Camps which was conducted at various departments of IIT Kharagpur from 25 August - 4 September 2009 followed by celebration of IEEE's Engineering the Future Day on 5th September 2009. The IEEE EMB Student Club of IIT Kharagpur in association with the IEEE Kharagpur Section successfully carried out IEEE's Student Boot Camps at various departments of IIT Kharagpur from 25 August to 4 September 2009.

The main aim of these camps was to make students aware about the benefits of IEEE membership and encourage students from various disciplines to become members of this elite group. An overview of what IEEE is all about was presented with details about its benefits to ones academic as well as professional life was emphasized. Various activities of the IEEE EMBS were also explained by the respective Student Activities Committee members. Special importance was also given to Women in Engineering affinity group, encouraging more and more girls to become a part of this elite group.

Boot Camp at Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur

These Boot Camps greatly helped in promoting IEEE's membership benefits to students from various departments like Electronics and Electrical communication Engg., Electrical Engg., Computer Science Engg., School of Information Technology, School of Medical Science and Technology, etc which continues to grow further even today. Currently The IEEE Kharagpur section has around 167 members from various disciplines, with 53 in the WIE affinity group.

The Students Boot Camps were followed by celebration of IEEE's Engineering the Future Day on 5th September 2009, to commemorate IEEE's 125 years of innovation and ingenuity. Inaugural speeches were given by Prof. N. K. Kishore and IEEE-IITKgp section chair, Prof D. Samanta explaining all about being an IEEE member to the budding members. A general overview about various benefits and activities of IEEE's were highlighted once again. The event encouraged appreciable response from numerous students of various disciplines.

IEEE EMBS aims at bridging the gap between the Engineering and the Medical domains by promoting an effective blend between technology and medicine. It is by far the largest international society for Biomedical Engineers. These two scientific variants, coupled together with the cognizance of basic social and ethical needs manifests itself to serve the humanity for a greater cause. Such a productive effort requires effective collaborations between various disciplines ranging from Biomedical instrumentation to image processing and from biomaterial/tissue engineering to medical micro/nano technologies. Such an effective heterogeneity of various multidisciplinary subjects is very much essential to nurture the budding blossoms of tomorrow with the appropriate technological fusion. About IEEE Kharagpur Section
The IEEE Kharagpur Section is a section in India Council under Region 10 of the IEEE organization. It is a unique section in the whole IEEE as the section is rooted at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur unlike other sections where activities usually spread over a number of associations. The section office is located in the campus of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. For the past 25 years, the IEEE Kharagpur Section has helped its members advances their careers and the field of computing and the development of mankind.
